Description
First issued in 1989, the Gold Kangaroo is an iconic annual coin series portraying Australia’s most recognizable animal. The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality.
The new coin design portrays a crouching kangaroo with Waratah and Kangaroo Paw native Australian plants in the background. The design includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO’, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the ‘2021’ year-date, the coin’s weight ‘1 oz’ and fineness ‘9999’, and the metal’s name ‘GOLD’. The reverse of this 1 oz coin also includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within each coins' inscription which is only detectable under a magnifying glass. All coins are issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and bear the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and monetary denomination on the obverse.
